The Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council (NICGC) is the lead body for Commonwealth Sport in Northern Ireland. The council is representative of those sports recognised by the Commonwealth Games Federation. The NICGC is primarily tasked with presenting a team at both the Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Youth Games. These are the only opportunities available for athletes to compete in a multi-sport event representing Northern Ireland.
Squash has been a core sport for the Commonwealth Games since 1998. Ulster Squash has been represented by 2 players at each Games since then. Madeline Perry and Michael Craig represented Northern Ireland in the Glasgow 2014 Games.
Ulster squash had close engagement with the NICGC regarding player selection for a CWG squad for Brisbane 2018 and coach appointment overseen by the Ulster squash Performance Committee and Irish National Coach Hadrian Stiff, The squad worked to a training preparation programme overseen by Hadrian. Ulster squash was also fully engaged with the NICGC in supporting NI hosting of the Junior Commonwealth Games in 2021, and with Belfast City Council on the ‘Find a Sports Star’ programme in preparation for the games.
